Thanks, Green_Elite_Cab.
Issues beginning with #70 are available on TKM website and I will read them peronally. However I do not own the discs with older issues. Do you own them? Can you check the older issues, please? This would be a great help!

I don't have the discs, but I collect any of them I can find. I will send you what I have, since I know it will all be of use to you. PM me the Email you'd like me to send the file to.

That said, I could find no references to the F29 class in my issues. According to the online Index, the F29 info was available in issue 30, page 14. It says it contains "Background, Diagrams, Numbers & Quantities, Photos".

Sounds like what you need!
Rod Clarke's book is selling at Credit Valley railway for only $25 and they have several boxes of them!

(I found a bio of Rod on Wikipedia -- fascinating career.)
Two additional books-

West Jersey Rails II - covers Southern New Jersey on topics, almost to much to list. That leaves me lacking only the first book!

Outbound Trains: In the Era Before the Mergers- This book follows Jim Boyd's journey across the country in the late 50s and 60s, prior to super mergers such as the Penn Central. Very interesting pictures and stories.

Wow. Calling Jim Boyd "a railfan" is akin to calling Tony Stewart "a licensed driver."

RO,

Do you have any suggestions for books that identify passenger equipment? I've been trying to figure out what exactly I'm looking at when I research some of these early Amtrak trains.

I found this, it seems like it might be what i'm looking for, but I'm not prepared to drop $50 on what is essentially a photocopy just yet.

Oops, lol. I fixed it, but just because I'm curious, how big of a name is he? So far, the book is interesting to read, but I guess I'm not really current on the big names in railroad photography.

It would be difficult to overstate Boyd's contribution to the hobby.

There were some softcover books published in the late 70s and early 80s as Amtrak car spotters guides that had equipment rosters and floor plan diagrams. I don't recall titles or authors at the moment.

There is also AMTRAK By The Numbers, 1971 - 2011 available now.

And early issues of Passenger Train Journal had regular Amtrak consist updates.

Aww, he seemed like he might be an interesting person to meet one day. I enjoyed the story I read in the very beginning, about how he road away on his tricycle as a kid and got caught on the rails in a street running section of railroad through town. They weren't kidding when they mentioned his writing skills!

I've spotted "Amtrak By the Numbers" at the SEPTA store in Philadelphia, though right now i'm not prepared to drop $80 on the book, I might wait until it drops in price. It sorta suffers from the same problem that my current Amtrak source does (Amtrak Annual 1978-1979). It makes a big list of cars and their origins, and while Amtrak By the Numbers seems to have more, better pictures, it is still essentially a giant list of railcars and locomotives.

Those spotters guides might be useful, I'll have to look into them. As far as the Passenger Train Journal goes, there is another one I might have to pursue, depending on when they began publishing. I'm trying to find consist information on the Morning and Evening Liberty Express, which seems to be left out of most books. I'm told the trains had a brief existence though.
