I should note that the above is the "25th Anniversary Special Collector's Edition" Penn Central Power, but I didn't notice that when I bought it.

Anyways, I have yet more to add to the list-

Conrail Employee Timetable Atlantic Region #2 (1981).

Includes Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New Jersey Divisions. Unfortuneately, its published passed the "de-electrification" of conrail, but will probably still likely include useful reference information and info on Commuter operations in this area.

Amtrak Employee Timetable Northeast Corridor Region #1 (1976).

This one looks like it will be just about on target!
Added some more today:

The Remarkable GG1- Surprised I didn't have that one already...

Employee Timetables and other railroad documents

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Region #3 10/29/1978-unaltered

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Region #3 10/29/1978- General Orders to March 1979. Supposedly the last semi/Conrail timetable.

Conrail Metropolitan Region #1 4/27/1980- All trains out of Grand Central Terminal in New York City

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Region #1 4/1979

(for some reason, they started over with the numbers back to "1", this one is still in the mail, probably related to the pull out of Conrail rules). This will be Ideal, and I know where I can get a complete set of the general orders that go with it, so I can figure out when exactly I want to model.

Amtrak Northeast Corridor Region empty binder- One of my 1978 schedules came without one.

Conrail Hazardous Materials CT225- 1977, with a 1979 supplement

Thompson, Anthony W. Southern Pacific Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, Volume 1. Scotch Plains, New Jersey: Morning Sun Books, 1999.
New books-

The Hard Coal Carriers- Volume 1 First Generation Geeps

This book covers the GP7s, GP9s, and GP18s of the "Anthracite roads", specifically CNJ, DL&W, Erie, EL, The Reading Company, and Lehigh Valley. Most of these ended up on Conrail (A few shots are even in the early Conrail years, though it seems that the author avoided putting any patched or blue units in the book anywhere.)

New Railroad documents

Amtrak Operating Rules and Instructions 1979

This is a good one, since it apparently had EVERYTHING in it, not just the operating rules, but the Electrical Operating Instructions, Air Brake instructions, Interlocking instructions, just about any of the other documents I had to pick up individually for Conrail. In the case of the Electrical Operating Instructions (AMT-2), They give the "limits" on the MU car trains, something I had always wanted to know on the NEC.

General Orders 101-107 and others for Amtrak Timetable #1 4/29/79-

As it turns out, my Timetable #1 belongs to "C.P. Wahmann", the Assistant Vice President of Operations at Amtrak at the time. In fact, my copy doesn't even have hole punches!

Since it is in it's original state, these timetables will allow me to track the changes through out the summer and fall of 1979 on the NEC. This includes the addition of new "HEP" capable cars, and other pieces of data difficult to find through photographic research. Seeing the schedules change is also interesting.

Amtrak ETT #2 1978-

I figures I had ETT #1 updated to right before the ETT #2 came out, and since one was there for a couple bucks, I picked it up. It even came with some separate general orders, though not enough to bridge to my ETT#3.

Still, this does give me an Amtrak Northeast Corridor timetable for every year of the early conrail time period I model.

Conrail stuff-

Conrail Safety Rules-1978
Conrail CT400 Operating Instructions- 1976
Conrail Atlantic Region 1976-1978, Volume 1-

THIS BOOK IS WIN. Its as if they reached into my mind and made a book just about what I wanted to know with awesome pictures. Conrail's Atlantic Region (short lived before being changed into the Eastern Region in the 1980s) more or less included the entirety of northern New Jersey, including the Northeast Corridor all the way past Trenton.

The book also reaches out west from the ports of New Jersey to Allentown and the Bethlehem steel plant on the CNJ, LV and Reading, and north up the ex New York Central River line.

The author included many interesting stories of electric freights on the NEC, as he was apparently the Supervisor of Train Operations in the very early years of Conrail, working in the "40 Office" In New York Penn. It focuses on the freight aspects of Conrail, but does stop and mention the commuter operations in the area as well.

Ironically, I also recently received an Atlantic Region Employee timetable, dated for 1980. I'm going to try and dig up an older one to match my other Amtrak timetables.

The Milwaukee Road Under Wire

In the same series and by the same author as "The Remarkable GG1", this book covers Milwaukee road electrification, which is interesting.

AEM7 Operating Manual, EMD ~1979

NJ DOT/Conrail Arrow III MU operators Manual, by GE 3/1978
Well, between a train show and a box from a friend, I acquired quite a few new pieced of literature-

First, the books-

Commuter Trains to Grand Central Terminal- The history of the railroads and trains operating out of Grand Central Terminal.

Commuter Railroads: A Pictorial View of the Most Travelled Trains- Though the book was published in 1970 (and therefore predates almost all the commuter trains I am familiar with), it does cover just about every "heavy rail" commuter operation at the time in both the US and Canada. One curious photo was of a Rock Island "E-unit", which was essentially a rebuilt E6B with a cab installed in the end, almost like a giant box cab.

I also have a few new Operators Manuals-

General Electric-

New Series -7 Diesel-Electric Locomotive

New Series -8 Diesel-Electric Locomotives: Covers all models B23-8 Through C39-8

New Haven Division Penn Central Transportation Company Care Series 8400, 8500, 8600 - These are the "M2 Cosmpolitan" MU cars built in ~1973, which bumped the former New Haven Washboard MUs, and of which many were still in service until recently. Apparently, there were even a few lounge cars (the 8600 series) which were unusual for commuter trains. These operated from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven.

Railroad Rule-books and manuals-

Pennsylvania Railroad

C.T. 290 Electrical Operating Instructions- Revised December 15, 1966, Likely the first new CT290 following the retirement of the P5s, FF2, and other experimentals due to the arrival of the E44s

Memorandum- 3/5/84 VERY SPECIAL, it contains discussion of the E44 #4453, an former PRR E44A rebuilt by GE and briefly tested in electric freight service, 3 years after Conrail discontinued large scale electric operations. #4453 was assigned to trains TV 23 and TV 24, starting March 6 for six round trips

Conrail "Ten Years Young" Special Tenth Anniversary packet, April 1, 1986 includes a conrail corporate profile, several nice photos of Conrail engines and a paper discussing Conrail's New England Division.

Conrail Shared Assets Operations (Remainder of Conrail after the split)

North Jersey Split-Date Transportation Plans- 5/14/99 This booklet covers CSX Road Train Schedules, NS Road Train Schedules, Terminal Clocks, Locomotive Roster & Requirements, SAA Yard & Local Schedules. Essentially, its every detail of how the remainder of Conrail was to operate post-split, including how many of what specific types of locomotives were assigned to specific areas.

Station Pages and Special Instructions for Timetable No. 2- 1/17/00 This ETT covers all of CSAO's trackage, both in North and South Jersey, as well as Detroit. These areas could not be evenly split between NS and CSX in the merger, which is why Conrail technically still operates them.

Eh, I'm sure most people have to many books to even begin listing them, or they just aren't interested. I had hoped this thread could aid in research and information sharing.

Side question, does anyone know where I can get binders with rings that match Railroad Timetables? I have several timetables that need binders, and they don't seem to match the ones I find in the office stores.

Train shows. I just gave away a bunch of blue Conrail rules binders that I didn't have a use for. You're about a month too late.

Ah shoot, lol. I should have asked, I've had some of these things for months. I did ask around about 6 months ago, but got nothing. Do the railroad make their own binders, or is that a size that has fallen out of favor?
