I also have a few additions to make-

Books-

Amtrak By The Numbers

Essentially a giant all time roster. The book was so huge, that at first I thought they were missing some stuff, but upon further inspection, many things had their own sections. The only equipment that appears to be left out is Maitenance of Way.

Cars, locomotives, their previous owners, and fates are all listed and are supposedly accurate up to mid-2011. While the book focuses on just listing equipment, the captions by the photos give some of the history and back ground. Each section has a few introductory pages as well, with brief information on larger groups of cars, and happenings.

Railroad Documents-

NJ Transit Electrical Operating Instructions TRO-3 2011

Basically, how to deal with the electrical portions of NJ transit's system.

NJ Transit System Timetable No. 6 Special Instructions GO 601 (November 2011)

Rules, speed limits, distances, and other operation information for all NJ Transit lines.

Pennsylvania Railroad Diesel-Electric Locomotive Examinations for Employes in Locomotive Service (November, 1958)

A series of test questions and answers for PRR employees. Very informative.

Pennsylvania Railroad General Notice 225-E- Regulations for the Transportation of Explosives and Other Dangerous Articles(October, 1961)

Rules for transprotation of explosives, poisons, and other dangerous items.

Pennsylvannia Railroad Policy- (April, 1957)

A small booklet that looks to educate the public about the PRR's place in the country's economy, and how its policy effects them.
I have just picked up two treasures.
Street Railways of Toronto -- Louis H. Pursley -- Interurbans Special 25 (1958)
The Toronto Trolley Car Story -- Louis H. Pursley -- Interurbans Special 29 (1961)

For years these were the authoritative books on Toronto streetcars. And extremely unavailable and collectible. Pursley was employed by the TTC, and his father had been employed by the Toronto Railway Company. The first book covers up to 1921 and the second 1921 to 1961 -- divided at the point that the city took over.
We visited the train museum in San Dimas today and I spotted a copy of one book on their sale shelves. The volunteer thought they might have the other one and came back with copies of both, out of, I assume, estates donated to the museum. I think we were both happy with the sale and there is still one copy there!

I remember one person in Toronto saying that LHP's daughter has some boxes of books in the basement -- if he could just remember her married name.
It was free book day at work!

I got just one book for my birthday last week, and it arrived today:

Amtrak Equipment Plan and Data Manual (NRPC CMO-117) (1976 with some 1977)-

Its basically a diagram of every single last piece of locomotive hauled passenger car type on amtrak (no Metroliners or self propelled cars). It gives one side of the car (though sadly not the reverse side), the underbody details, the interior, and other technical details. low quality black and white photos of the exterior and interior are available for each car as well.

If a passenger car is even slightly different, it gets its own page. So far, the only car that seems to be missing is the Kitchen/Dormitory cars on the Twin Unit PRR Diners. There may be others, but given that the book contains just over 700 differen passenger car diagrams, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume most of them are covered.

Modeling early Amtrak just got easier!

Acquired a few missing books this week from Bytown Raiway Society:

-Montreal Streetcar Volume 4
-Levis Tramway Company

I also found a copy of the first miniature trains book I ever read when I was a freshman in highschool. I continually borrowed the book from the school library for 5 years in a row! Not the best out there, mostly european (French) trains, but still nostalgic. That thing kept the bug alive in me when I couldn't have a layout. There was a nice section about a guy building fantastic structures from paper and cardboard, I think his name was Alain Lepras.

Recommanded to any people seeking infos about connections, branchlines and bridge lines between Southern Quebec and New England.
