SO...How Many Hot Wheels Do You Have?
Posted by: eightyeightfan1 - 07-12-2009, 09:03 AM - Forum: Lower Berth - Replies (22)

Ok...I am also a member of a die cast collecting forum. They are having a "Show Us Your Hot Wheels Collection" contest, sponsered by the owner of the forum. There were a couple of nice collections. But this guy....over 6,500!(he said he that was his last count....15 years ago)
Well....look for yourself. I did get permission to repost these here, and this is just a teaser...He had some ON THE CEILING!
Guess my 800 Nascar pieces are just a drop in the bucket.......

 Motivating myself to change!
Posted by: Ralph - 07-11-2009, 07:48 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (28)

no, I'm not talking about improving health habits or anything like that! Goldth I've been looking at photos of this section of my layout...
and I'm not happy with it. I figure that posting a thread about it might motivate me to make some improvements. The steel mill flats in the background are pasted to the backdrop so I'm looking at ripping them out as a last resort. I'm pondering adding details to the buildings and also squeezing in some foliage between them and the elevated track to create an illusion of distance and also one of urban greenery gone wild... I'll post attempts as I try them.

OK, just about to hit the "Submit" button...do I really want to put this out there? Eek Big Grin

Ralph (who sometimes benefits from external motivation!)

I have 2 books, actually 1 book and a 70+ page pamphlet to give to whoever, whomever, whichever, or whatever wants them. I am asking a total price of zilch, nada, diddly naught for each one. Possibly cheaper if you open up and purchase both. All you military and useta was's are trained to take anything free, but let's give these others a "chance". Cheers

Lynn

 power connections
Posted by: yellowlynn - 07-11-2009, 09:44 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (18)

On a DC layout, is it possible to use 2 power packs on the same line? My layout is 5 X 14, and walking doesn't come easy to me. If I used power on one side, but always left the throttle at zero, would I be able to power up on the other side instead of always having to walk around and back and forth? I realize polarity would be a prime consideration.

Any time you have a hard job, always give it to the laziest guy. He will always find the easiest way. I'm trying.

...it was announced that after much legal wrangling, (the lawyers got richer,) and without too much government interference...er...help, the trackage rights were obtained for the Dubuque, Davenport and St Louis Railroad, earlier this week.
The railroad's President and head Broom Pusher, Carl, stated that the railroad has hopes to also operate a passenger train from Chicago to St Louis. The railroad will be known as "the Mississippi River Route."
It is uncertain when the first train will begin operations, as there are "areas that need to be worked on."

Anyone ever see this book? I checked it out from my local library a couple days ago, and I like it! I may have to go buy a used copy off Amazon once I get a job and money again

Sincerely hope none of you even knew these kids. Seems another case of avoiding crossing protection has taken 5 young lives. My thoughts are with all who knew them, and especially my brothers and sisters on the Amtrak crew. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/07/0...7200.shtml Though I know none of those involved, it's still a sad day. Old Picture of the day

Here is a link to a blog that is a treasure chest of old photos that help with modeling details.
http://old-photos.blogspot.com/ Not all of them are helpful for modeling, but there are some real jewels here.
Today's picture shows an old grocery store front, and at the top of the windows are little pictures of the "Old Dutch Cleanser" lady.
I remember Old Dutch Cleanser, but had forgot about the paintings on the glass store fronts. I seem to recall the Morton Salt girl painted like these too.
It's little details like this that I have forgotten that really dress up a layout. You can download the picture and enlarge it a little more to see the details.
Charlie
