What do you think of this 3x6 track plan?
Posted by: RobertInOntario - 04-03-2009, 03:21 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (18)

It's actually 6' long by 3'-2" wide. Also, it's not really to scale but I've tried to be as accurate as I can -- the shape of the two sidings is not that accurate but you should get the idea. I already have a 3x4 layout that I think I could expand into this layout. The inner loop should be ideal for my small British tank engines and 4-wheel freight cars. Only 2-3 of my locos can't cope with the outside 15R curves.

Please let me know your thoughts on this -- I'm trying to make a very compact HO layout as a "side project".

Thanks in advance. I might add a few more details/comments here later.

Rob

Hi All,

While searching around the net i found this site with large drawings of locos ..... superb for references ........ some of the images are large but if saved to your pictures go to a good useable size.

May 9th is a day to remember. Why?? This is the date set for the Grand Opening of the CSX-B&O-C&O rail road museum. It is located in Clifton Forge, VA., where CSX has their railyard. They have restored some old passenger coaches, and have others to be restored. They are also restoring some cabeese, and some box cars. They are building a switching tower, which will be open to the public, so they can watch the switch engines as they build consists. They have also converted the old railroad station into a nice museum. There will be other goings on as well. So mark this day on your calendar, and we'll see you there.
Here's some photos to whet your curiosity:

  Another Auto-Carrier
Posted by: Trucklover - 04-02-2009, 01:55 PM - Forum: Shutterbug area - Replies (5)

Well i completed another auto-carrier last night. Well i didnt really complete it, they bth still needs to be weathered an decaled for a private hauler.... Anyways, i finished adding on the details, and im quite happy with how this one turned out.

This one is a Promotex Kenworth T-600 with a Flat Top Sleeper. I added Front Fender Mirrors, Diamond Tread Frame Crossover Platform and Frame Crossover steps, as well as the supplied Promotex Cab Mirriors, Horns, and Grabs. I also moved the fifth wheel back on the frame. The Auto-Rack was custom fitted on the cab, and like the other, the trailer is a Walthers Auto-Carrier. Here are 5 pics of the new one and 6 more of the other one, the Mack CH603 Day Cab Auto-Carrier:

Here is a PC photo that I have just come by. It was taken down the road a piece at Carthage Indiana in Sept 1974. Carthage is now isolated trackage as it has been severed at both ends.

Hi fellas,
Here are some pics of a project that I've just recently finished. It's a low relief building that Is a Cold Storage Distribution Centre and will provide a destination for my Cryogenic and mechanical reefer cars. What follows is a photograp[hic presentation of the project. Basically the structure consists of a balsawod core with Plastruc corrigated styrene sheeting glued onto the balsawood. The white edgings are Evergreen styrene angle strips. I almost forgot, the model is built in HO scale (3.5mm/ft --- 1/87th scale)

  Layout tour pix

This past weekend, Dr Wayne and I went on the "Doubleheaders" layout tour in the Kitchener-Waterloo area of southern Ontario. The tour is self-directed, so you sign up at the club HQ and armed with a map, and GPS, set off to see the member's layouts. The map has a list of the various layouts with descriptions of scale and theme, so you can pick and choose the ones you want to see.

Our first stop was at a new RR club, tucked way around the back of a small industrial complex, with tracks running behind as well. They were in the process of cleaning up and prepping the space for a large layout, and had also started work on a modular layout for shows. It will be interesting to go back next year to see what progress they've made.

This is the next layout. I was planning to be a lot more organized about this, but I'm afraid I'm just not that kind of person!!! I can tell you it was HO, and featured thousands of beautifully crafted trees all over the hills, and some very nice CSX motive power.

Plexiglass sides protect the layout across the duckunder:

Just outside of the layout room. I love the trains across the mantel. This track continues along, under the stairs and connects back to the layout again.

  EMD's GP 7 & 9, recognition of
Posted by: toptrain - 04-01-2009, 07:34 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (26)

EMD's GP 7 & 9
The GP 7 was EMD's very sucessfull road switcher. It's utilitarian body gave better vision to the operating crew as compaired to the streamlined F3. Making it better suited for freight and road switching service. It was well powered for it's time, but needed more as the competition keep increasing the power of their products. EMD made the GP 7 one way. The only changes were requested by the railroads. I read where you could order a GP 7 with a large fuel tank, giving a look similar to a GP35 frame, which caused a relocation of the air reserve tanks. Most were put on the roof. Unlike the GP 7 the uppowered GP9 was updated in phases rather than make another model. Here is photos of the basic phases.
I'll start with a GP7
