New Coupler Conversion Possibility
Posted by: Herc Driver - 02-23-2009, 03:47 PM - Forum: N/Z and Smaller Modeling - Replies (1)

Recently at my LHS, I noticed they had the new Bachmann fixed knuckle coupler on two axle trucks. I replaced an older Bachmann rapido style coupler/truck set with these new ones and they worked fine (they should - that's what they were made to do.) But I also have an older Con-Cor 125 Ton Gunderson double stack car that had rapido couplers. The rapido coupler popped out easily leaving the centering spring in place, and after popping out the Bachmann coupler, I reinstalled it in the Con-Cor truck and it worked perfectly. (The whole Bachmann replacement truck assembly won't fit correctly under the Gunderson car, but you can switch out the coupler and it works great.) If you have any Con-Cor products with the rapido-style coupler...you might want to try the Bachmann's as a $2.00 replacement. Granted, they're not as good as a MicroTrain or Accu-Mate, but for the price, they sure work well.

Air Brush,to those of us who don't have one
Posted by: Lester Perry - 02-23-2009, 11:43 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (9)

Over the last 10 years I have purchased those cheap $40 or even $20 so called air brushes. All of them have been thrown away in short order when I couldn't handle it any more. They were not much more than a fancy spray can. I am sure I am not alone in this. Well my wife got me a real one for Christmas. I have been moving slowly in the process of using it since Christmas. I now have succeeded at it . Not the fancy artwork but simple painting. I love it, the control is fantastic. It is smooth and even. Did I mention the control ? I am excited and wanting to try more with it. All I have done so far other than the lessons I found on the internet is prime a project. Man did I mention the control ? As I said this is a real one and not cheap it is a Badger 155. Now I am no expert at this stuff but I would recommend this model to anyone. But at a minimum make sure you get a real one with double action. Did I mention the control ?

Found this cruising around the net. Anybody heard of it or tried it? Looks to be cheaper then cork roadbed.

 2 cent tip
Posted by: MadHatter - 02-23-2009, 09:12 AM - Forum: Tips and Tricks - Replies (4)

I know these are lame, but for anyone new:

For those of you that enjoy modelling in a certain era in a certain area my two cent tip is that you should rather focus on having many of one type of engine than many different types.

Also make sure the solder you buy for your rails is RESIN CORE not ACID CORE as this eats your plastic sleepers (cross ties).

 Missing "Reply" buttons
Posted by: ezdays - 02-22-2009, 04:01 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (4)

I've seen a few threads where some people have mentioned that they don't have a reply button on a given thread. Can anyone, or everyone that doesn't have a reply button on a thread please let me know. I can correct the problem once I know if it is a member-directed problem or a forum directed one. Just give me examples, such as the thread name and where it is, or just the topic section it is in, such as: "Upper berth" or "HO modeling". You should be able to reply in any thread that is not locked, or in certain areas such as "announcements" where we don't want you to respond.

Thanks, we'll get this fixed as soon as I have more information from you all. And, uh, sorry about that chief... Misngth

 Calling SW Ohio Gaugers...
Posted by: nkp_174 - 02-22-2009, 03:31 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (7)

Since our brethren on the other side of the Mountains are planning a trip, how about we plan a trip?

Is there any interest in making a run up to Dayton this spring?

We'd visit Carillon Park which has a nice rail museum and 1.5" scale railroad. The museum has a fireless cooker, a 30" gauge porter, an 1835 B&O steam locomotive, a B&O caboose, an interurban car, a trolley, and a Barney & Smith passenger car. The 1.5" scale railroad is sometimes diesel powered...sometimes steam powered...http://www.cprss.org/index.shtml

Sound like a fun trip to anyone?

Hi Guys, im looking for some plastic handrails to replace/add onto my Athearn CSX SD70MAC. It does not matter what color they are. If you have them on a shell and would like to sell me the whole shell, i would be willing to buy that as well. I just need a set for my CSX Dark Future SD70MAC
