Red or UnRead Indications on the left.
Posted by: tetters - 02-27-2009, 11:50 AM - Forum: Forum Problems and Requests - Replies (7)

Just a thought. Any quick and dirty way to somehow eliminate the red "unread" indicator on the left after a forum area has been looked at.

For example. I don't read every thread in the Upper Berth Category. However because I don't the indicator/icon on the left always stays read. Is there a way to change the settings so that if a subforum has been viewed it turns white, even if all the threads in that forum have not been read? Just curious. Thanks.

  Just some guidlines
Posted by: ezdays - 02-27-2009, 06:36 AM - Forum: Weathering - No Replies

Just to give you an idea what to post here. Post examples of your weathered whatever it may be... Rolling stock, locos, a building, a lineside structure, a bridge, anything you've done that you'd like us to see. Got a before and after shot, great. Got a step-by-step tutorial, even better. How about a list of things you used to get where you are, just fine. Need some help, just post something and ask for opinions.

We have lots of fine modelers here that can weather with their eyes closed, and others that are struggling to know how to start. We are looking for all kinds of modelers, those that we can learn from and those that want a critique. Some may just want to post their work and not want any feedback. Just let us know what your desires are when you post.

As usual, I'm looking forward to learning a lot here since this is a most interesting subject. Big Grin

  Plexi Glass.
Posted by: tetters - 02-26-2009, 10:45 AM - Forum: Engineer's Technical Workshop - Replies (4)

This is some cool stuff, expensive, but still cool. I bought a small sheet of some 3/8" clear stuff it last night. Pretty easy to cut and snap with the proper scribing tool. I can already see a use for it as a boarder around my harbour area instead of plain ol' Masonite hard board.

My Question is does anyone have any experience on how to get a nice clear finished edge on the stuff?

Thanks. Thumbsup

Servo Screws to hold track in place
Posted by: upnick - 02-26-2009, 07:34 AM - Forum: Tips and Tricks - Replies (2)

Hi All,

While laying track i had need to hold the flexitrack in place to create an S kink in it whilst the glue set, looking around for a small screw to hold it temporary i came across some servo screws thin 10mm long and with a washer on the head to apply gentle pressure holding the sleeper down.
Once the glue has dried remove and reuse them Big Grin the hole made in the trackbed is not noticable once covered with ballast later.
About £3.50 for 50 on ebay.

  BNSF Red?
Posted by: Trucklover - 02-26-2009, 12:30 AM - Forum: Lower Berth - Replies (6)

I need to get a paint to match the BNSF red on the ex Santa Fe Units. I cant find a "BNSF Red" in Floquil/Polly Scale or Badger Paints. Anyone ever used a red to match the BNSF red and Silver paint scheme? If ya did, what color red did you use?

...out of cardboard! LOL!!!

My little girl has been bugging me all weeks that she wants to build a "real" train.

She already wants to build a caboose and a tender (or as she said it a place for the black stuff) for her steamer. We just need to know make it is. What type of loco does this latest build look like to you guys. Tomorrow we are going to paint it and start building the other stuff.

  riverbed
Posted by: LynnB - 02-25-2009, 06:12 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (2)

Ok so I need some input, I painted the river bed with acrylic paints and I will be pouring envirotex for the water. Questions are do I need to seal the river base with modge podge or something before the envirotex is poured? I'm thinking if its not sealed and the envirotex hit it that before it has a chance to set the colors may bleed.
Question 2 is I need to put some course sand down along the river banks to simulate the shallows along with some debris , do I need to seal this down before envirotex pour or pour the envirotex right on the sand and logs stones ?
