  BOWSER KITS
Posted by: csiguy68 - 03-19-2009, 07:04 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (12)

went to a train show this past weekend and got some rather bad news. myself and the two other guys i was with talked to several dealers who stated they talked to BOWSER within the past few days ,and informed them that they will very soon no longer be making car kits. they will strictly be manufacturing READY TO RUN. these guys appeared to know what they were talking about, and if it is in fact true, i think its rather sad. bowser makes great kits . im curious if anyone else heard this.

And he said, "let there be light...and ZAP!!

Well, if my sanity was ever in doubt, this will surely convince everyone that I'm not really all that sane, anyway!! :o
Yesreday, being the beautifully warm that it was, I invited my beautiful wife to assist me in stringing the power line from the basement of the house, at the main circuit breaker panel, under the deck, and into the woods, Uh...I mean into the train room. So , after much struggling, and straining of old and worn out joints, we finally got'r done. Today was "D-Day." So I made certain there weren't bare wires left hanging around, installed some light bulbs, and tthrew the circuit breaker. Nothing happen. So far so good. I then went back out to the train room, and flipped on the light switch. Wow!!! The lights came on!! All except for those on the wall. H-m-m-m. Oh, yeah! I don't have the power connected to the switch yet. Oh, well, I'll fix that in a hurry! I'll just cut the feeder wire, here and....ZAP !!! Eek Wow !! That sure was a pretty shade of orange!!! Wha hoppen to da lights, man??? Dey hev all gone out!!! Eek Uh, yeah, Carl, you just blew the circuit breaker!! 35 35 All is well here in la-la land!!! We got the lights back on, did some more re-wiring, with the circuit on, and only have a very minor problem that will take some time, but other than that.....how was your day???

  Department of Defense Passenger Cars
Posted by: iis612 - 03-19-2009, 11:44 AM - Forum: Industries Along The Rails - Replies (2)

I am wondering, during WWII, if the DOD had a fleet of passenger cars. I am not talking about troop cars, but passenger cars for the upper brass.
I have been doing some light digging, and I am yet to come up with anything firm. I have found information that they did have some cars, but it does not say if they are leased, or if they have military markings on them.
The reason I ask is because Michigan played a huge roll in war production, which would bring several big wigs from the pentagon to the various production and testing facilities.

Hi All,

Dont know if this has been covered before but here goes ....... have you ever had wires you need to thread down through scenery to the Bus wires and spent time cursing ..... easy solution is drill a hole to accept a length of plastruct tubing put the tubing in the hole and thread the wire through remove the tubing and the wires are in place in no time Big Grin Big Grin

  Inspection pits
Posted by: upnick - 03-19-2009, 10:54 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (8)

Hi All,

In making the carshop i need to know the depth of inspection pits typical of such a service facility ........ a search on the net ranges from 4ft - 7ft deep ... is there a common depth for most of these types of pits could anyone tell me please.

The height from the rail top to the pits base.

Also what types of other items are around the shop ?

Kentucky & Tennessee Southern (HO Scale)

I started this layout back in 2007, worked on it for a little while, & then I took about a year's hiatus from the hobby all together...

Well, a few days ago, I managed to get back to the train room, did some reorganizing, repairing, & some rethinking/readjusting...In other words, for the time being anyway, I'm back at it!

I decided to modify the backdrop at the end of the sawmill peninsula...I curved it back, giving me a couple more square feet of visible layout...

I got some more track laid, & started working on building a concrete arch bridge...

Hopefully, I'll have some more updates soon!
