I know this isn't a model train - obviously - but it is hobby related, and what a hobby!

Here's a remote-controlled, quarter-sized scale model of a German King Tiger panzer that could crush most other RC models under its treads. That's not just because of its size — the World War II era panzer weighs a monstrous 550 pounds. Also, it's six feet long, and powered by two 500 watt electric motors — enabling the tank to tow a full-sized car on an even surface.
The turret works, too — though it doesn't fire (or at least we think it doesn't). But the two-foot-long barrel is motorized to simulate recoil, and it even has speakers that blare the satisfying, heavy noises treads make while crunching along.
So, yeah, the price. With all of those big numbers up there, you should already be expecting this one right here: $10,000. The King Tiger is one of many model tanks of all makes and sizes built by the folks at Mark-1 Tanks, based in Great Britain.
Hi all, just thought i'd ask if anyone is using or has used the Block Watcher from DC Specialities.I'am getting ready to buy enough of them to make signals and such work automatically.Any feedback on the pros and cons of the Block Watcher would be great.I do plan on just buying a few at first just to see what i can do with them before i invest on buying what i actually need. Thanks Harold Cole
Non-Weathered or Pre-Weathered Track. That is the question.
As I gear-up to begin the destruction and sub-sequent rebirth of my layout, I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with pre-weathered track? If anyone can alert me to potential pit falls, if any, on the use or pre-weathered track?
For the record when I do begin to re lay my track work I've decided to go with flex track this time around. I still plan on using my hand laid turnouts, its just this time around in the event I want or have to move the layout I don't want to worry about damaging the delicate track work. Plus it will be a big time saver and allow me to get back up and running quickly.
I would like to take a moment to introduce you to the Beaver Central Rail (BCR). This is my freelanced logging line based in Canada. It is a work in progress with much more yet to go. Right now I just recently got the bench work up and most of the foam in place. I will be adding roadbed and track next as i want to get some trains running. I had hoped to have the track in place by Christmas time but had to take 2 weeks off to finish a bathroom renovation. I will try and keep this thread updated as i progress along. For now here are a few quick pics that I snapped with my cell phone last night. I do have a good camera as well so at some point i will try and get some better pics.
The Layout is a cut up 4x8 that works out to about a 5x9.
The trackplan is roughly basked of this one that can be found in a really old MR magazine and in the logging for model railroads book they publish.
I’d like to ask the CEO of GERN Industries to start a new thread here on the Big Blue. I have an announcement to make and I need a # for a covered hopper.
Ok Josh has a real good roll by so i figured id try. Here is ON1 rolling through Oneida led by a Conrail unit followed by NYO&W unit still in Chessie colors. A little pic for Chessie and no Ralph i didnt forget you
Hi guys, i am hoping i can get some help here. I am modeling the Modesto and Empire Traction Company as many of you might now. After the weekly visit to the M&ET, i noticed that in December 2008, the M&ET has acquired 2 new locos to there roster, RP20BD #2000 and RP20BD #2001 pushing there roster to 13 switching locos (9 70-Toners, 2 SW1500's, and 2 RP20BD's)
I am wondering, what would be required to make such locos? I personally have never heard of the RP20BD switching locos until i read about them on M&ET's web site and then looked them up on google. Here is a link to the page about M&ET's RP20BD #2001: http://www.trainweb.org/gensets/railpower/met/2001.html
Apparently, the 2 RP20BD's for the M&ET were made from a pair of GP10's. Would these be a hard loco to kitbash? What locos could i start with to do make a pair of RP20BD's?
I just want to know if CV29 uses the same table from all manufactures. I need to reverse the normal direction of one of my PA1's for an ABA consist. I come up with a value of 35 for cv29 which changes direction 28 speed steps and no dc operation. I'm using the MRC 1803 decoder.
Thanks all
Charlie
I've had a loksound decoder in my U34CH locomotive for a long time now, and it has always performed fine. However, today the sound system in it seems to have failed.
Whenever the engine turns on (as in power is applied to the locomotive, not just the start up sounds), the decoder produces a white noise that at best is annoying, and at worst drowns out all the locomotive sounds.
I removed the shell, and everything seems fine. The locomotive did have to make a run through a rain storm, but i'm pretty sure it was working fine when i first turned it on today. Only now is it doing this, and i can't figure out why. I haven't had to program it or take it out of the locomotive since i installed it, and this is probably the first time in a long time the decoder has even seen the light of day.
Any clue what it is? this is usually my engine of choice at train shows, i'd really hate to hear the sound is dead.... the rest of the locomotive runs excellent.
For those of you who might be interested, there is a link to the professional credentias of "sanjay", the new admin at the old forum. A very impressive business resume, but he says he has never done any modeling.
