I'm relieved to see that you make as big a mess while working on the layout as I do....From the looks of the finished "product", one would think that you worked in a surgically clean room..... Goldth

Any chance of putting some floating debris on that canal..?? That does look too "clean".... Eek
That second last shot at looking down the trench looks incredible. Almost real. Thumbsup
Looks freaking awesome Gary, great work!
P5se Camelback Wrote:What is the material that you are using for "dirt?" I like the way it looks ... it has texture!

It is actual dirt off a dirt road - Gathered a cardboard box full, then sifted to get the fine particles. Glued just like you would do ballast. The dirt itself is quite light-colored, but once the glue is added, it dries to a darker color.

Gus, I still have to dirty up the concrete embankments a whole lot... it does seem too clean. As for debris in the bayou, we'll see, not sure how I want the final scene to look.
Tetters, JGL, thanks! I'm liking the way this is turning out. Smile
Gary, that is something to be proud of. I sure think it is terrific. When are you coming to Ohio?
Charlie
Now Charlie, would that be to run trains or build bridges? 357

Thanks for the kind comments. How are things going in your empire?
Gary, things are going pretty good here, Getting ready for the cold weather.
I drywalled and insulated the garage, which is attached to the house. I figured even without heating it it would be a big help.
It was such a nice day today and 2 more promised, so I got the paint out and stirred and got the east side and half of the west side of my building painted with a second coat today.
With any luck I'll finish it up by noon on Thursday and that will be one of next summers jobs done in advance.
As for the layout, I installed 3 cross-overs, and I have ballasted about 35 feet of double track main, so you might say a little progress is being made.
I hope to post some pictures soon, just been too lazy to do it.
Charlie
Charlie, sounds like you are staying busy. Looking forwardto more photos of your layout. As for the bridge here, did find the time to get a coat of paint on the ground. I've still got to get some weathering on the concrete so I can make the bridge permanent and then get the track put down so i can run a train again.

Gary,

Another great Bridge!!

I have lost count, how many is this and how many are going to be on the layout????
At this rate some part of everyone of your trains will be on top of a bridge somewhere!!

Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next bridge, underpass, overpass, super highway....etc etc
Greg, there will be a total of 7 bridges on the layout, plus one itty bitty one leftover from when the layout was in the garage. All the bridges are either complete or in some stage of near completion except one which hasn't been started yet. With 172 feet of shelving, there is plenty of space fro this many bridges!
Seven ... only seven? Are you counting the highway bridges in that count? Confusedhock:

HMmmmm! I thought not! Wink Misngth
No, for real, only 7, and that is counting the highway underpasses. Wink
HMmmmmmm! Weren't there a couple of highway bridges between the railroad bridges and the backdrop? Hmm? Hmm?

Weren't there? Wink 357 8-)
