That just might be it!

That would be it. CR9306 is former Reading VO1000 #55, rebuilt by EMD to SW1200 specs and continued in Reading service into Conrail.

I'm lovin' how the Ol' Reading Company keeps popping up here and there ...

One expects that of the Pennsy or the Santa Fe or any of the other Big Boys ...

... but the little Reading ... Big Grin
That C630, CR 6757, is also ex-Reading. Of the roads that went into Conrail, Reading probably had the best maintained power - the non-Conrail roads tried to grab it as much as possible. They ade a HUGE mistake closing down the Reading shops and picking Altoona.

Now wouldn't it be nice if some of the viewers would start playing along Icon_lol

Bruce, I've only made a few contributions because I don't have a library of rail photos like, say, Charlie B has. I'm amazed when he pegs a road number match like he does often. About all I get to contribute is recent photos of recent rollingstock. Add to that, about 90% of the cars I see in Houston are covered hoppers, intermodal, auto-racks, and tank cars - and of BNSF or private owner road names. And I don't take many photos of those because I'm not that interested in them. So when most of the stuff is "obscure" norhteastern roads like was discussed previously, I have to try really hard to get in the game. I suppose I could try harder! 357

And yes, Conrail and the Pennsylvania are obscure northeastern roads. Tongue

I choose to ignore that comment as, hopefully, a sad attempt at humor.

On the other hand, I've been pouring over my railroad maps for years and I still can't locate what must be some obscure, small time regional short line ... has anyone ever heard of the "Espee" railway? I don't see it identified on the maps but I am under the impression that it has a few miles of track somewhere in the southwest. But what I can't figure out is, the southwest of which state?! :?

Sorry about that, biL... Wink
Gary, this tread is for models too. I also realize that today the cost of film for the cameras prohibits just shooting pictures of any old or new rail car, but keep in mind that today's valuable antiques are the cast aways from yesteryear, the keepsakes survive too often to obtain market value.
I took lots of random shots of rail cars that are now real treasures for me, and film with processing was about $10 a roll.
Here is one of Amtrak #41 at Smith crossover (Manual block station) waiting for clearance for a reverse move around 8AM December, 1977, one of the coldest winters we ever had. The train at this point is only 7 hours behind time.

Nice photo, Charlie! I'm feeling cold just looking at it! Thumbsup

Or maybe that's because it 49° outside right now and only 68° in here! Eek

I think I'm gonna go turn on the heat!
