Good morning all, the weather is like why folks come here in the winter, just one thing that I don't understand. How some folks can walk around in shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops when we're in the 40's. They say that if you've lived here a few years that your blood thins out. I don't know if that's true or has anything to do with it, but I know this, we do become accustom to the heat in the summer. 110 is like a walk in the park.

Not much going on, got some time today, but I'm working on a project for my son, so I want to get that out of the way, plus one more small woodworking project for myself, then I'll talk about doing some trackwork.

Take care and have a great day.
Good afternoon folks

It is 37 going up to 41.

Put away some Christmas decorations. Will do some more today.

I put the Cement Company Diorama back into the layout. I need to do some trackwork to get it connected.

We have to go take my car to the shop to get my car inspected.

I hope everybody has a good day.
Good morning all, getting closer to the weekend and possibly some rain. Temps are still really nice, "plenty of sunshine" says the forecasts.

Still working on other projects, haven't touched anything on the layout in the past few weeks, but soon....

Speaking of car inspections, I need to get mine in the shop for a recall. They have yet to notify me, but checking the VIN, their website says it's part of the recall, something about a defective hood latch. Worse case, they replace the whole hood, best case, they just fix the cause. Won't know which until I bring it in.

Running late today, so I'm off to get breakfast, take care and stay safe.
Greetings, gang.

Another beautiful January day yesterday. High was 51. Today only the low 40s and then the nice weather goes up in smoke. 6-12 inches of snow and blowing snow. Then the bottom falls out of the thermometer down to -2. Not gonna be a very pleasant weekend.

Another quiet day yesterday. Gym was routine and I got in a nice walk yesterday afternoon. Also several hours of porch sitting. Finally gave that up about 8 last night. Gym again this morning and I'll probably test fire the snow blower this afternoon.

Don - about your comment about the blood thinning. I read somewhere that it doesn't actually thin but what happens is that the capillaries move closer to or further away from the surface of your body depending on the temperature. I don't remember which way though.

All stay safe (and comfortable regardless of how your capillaries move).

Good morning folks

It is 35 heading up to 45 today. We have a couple of days in the 40's and then the bottoms falls out. Twenties for Saturday and then Sunday/Monday is snow.

Got the bins down from the attic for the Christmas decorations. We dropped my car off for inspection. When we pick my car we will be dropping off my daughter's car. Took a trip to Delaware to get gas for my wife's car. Price was $3.13 which was 40 to 45 cents cheaper than Pennsylvania.

Didn't get any work on the layout done. One of the couplers fell of the C-Liner B unit. Upon examine it the screw hole on the frame appears to be stripped. Since the frame is metal I need to come up with someway for the screw to stay. I prefer not to use glue.

Working on getting the outside Christmas decorations in. Looks like I am going to have to wait a little longer for anything staked in the ground as it is still frozen and won't release the stakes.

Maybe I get some layout or workbench time.

I hope everybody has a good day.
Tom - a couple of quick ideas.

A small amount of aluminum foil.

Loctite makes a non-permanent liquid for securing screws/bolts.

Yeah, I really believe that is an old wife's tale anyway. Folks just say it because it sounds right. It's just that you get use to ignoring the heat after you've been here for a while. I take Warfarin and it doesn't seem to make any difference, but then, that doesn't actually thin you blood either.... Nope

I didn't know this before, but they make both red and blue Locktite. Red is more permanent than the blue. I've tried to blue on some of the screws on my guns, and I still have problems with them coming loose.  I may have to go, "code red"..... Waiting
[attachment=37745]hi all . still kicking feeling somewhat better. as for locktight the image is self explanatory  , but will tell you that red and green do require heat to break bond .

I've used the red but not on something I had plans on taking apart again. I guess that's not a wise move to use on gun parts that need to come apart occasionally. I did soak the treads in the blue, so if that doesn't work, I've got a doorstop for sale. Icon_rolleyes
don what i have done in past with problem screws  is first make sure threads and hole are squeaky clean then to be sure after using thread locker is to spike  the head not enough to ruin screw just enough to put a drag on mating surface.

Good morning everyone, here we are halfway through January already and poor Tom still can't get his Christmas decorations put away thanks to "frozen ground"... Ahh, temps today here expected to be in the mid-70's, current temp at 5:00 is 51. Rain is no longer in the forecast, just a slight chance later next week. I'd be sitting on the patio today drinking a mai tai, but I don't have a lounge chair and I can't drink anymore. Nope

Thanks Jim, I cleaned the screws, but not the holes, could be oil or powder residue screwing me up. I did soak the threads in blue Loctite this time, maybe that will be enough. Should have put the breech bolt in the ultrasonic cleaner first.

Back to doing paperwork again, no time left for trackwork. Soon though, real soon...

Take care, have a great day. Stay warm and stay safe.
Greetings, gang.

30 and snow headed for 23 and snow. The temperature will be falling through the remainder of the day and the snow will be falling through the night. Total amount could be as much as a foot by this time tomorrow.

Not much on the to-do list for today than occasionally running the snow blower. Tomorrow is a birthday party for one of the great-grandkids.

Jim - thanks for the image on the types of Loctite. Very much appreciated.

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

Clear and cold are the weather words for today. 9 right now headed for 14 later on.

I ran the snow blower a couple of times yesterday and will be running it again today. Look like about 11 inches of snow so the snow blower will be getting a workout. Also found out the young lady across the street will be moving. Told here she was breaking my heart. Very nice (and attractive) young lady. Seems the rental house has major plumbing issues so she has to leave. Told me she was sad as she really likes the neighborhood. I did tell her she could always come visit me. Today is laundry and snow blowing day. This afternoon is cake and ice cream for one of the great-grandkids.

All stay safe.

Tom

Quick update: I just looked out the kitchen window and saw that one of the neighbors has his car in the driveway sideways. Must have been an interesting night for him.
Good morning and happy weekend to ya all. Really slept in today, here we are well past 6:00 and just now getting to my computer and coffee. temp right now is 60, highs in the 70's as far as they're forecasting. Some rain maybe next weekend, February is normally most likely rainy, but the way things are going, you never know. BTW, last year here was the sixth hottest on record.

Got my paperwork almost done, do have one woodworking project to do, then maybe trackwork.... no promises, but I'll try.

Big Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale starts next weekend. Single tickets to go there to look will be $210, $180 if you buy them early. Oh, discounts for seniors and military. The big deal is not only the cars, but the stars, you can be sure people like Jay Leno, maybe Wayne Newton (a Phoenix boy) and bunches of others will be there. Some buying, others selling, some, I think, just to show off since they probably didn't have to pay the $210 to get in. They usually have five or six other auctions around town at the same time.

Time for breakfast, gotta make my own today, so everyone have fun today and stay safe.
Greetings, gang.

It's a partly cloudy 12 degrees outside my window this morning. It was 9 an hour ago when I got up and 4 when I went to bed last night so there is a warming trend underway at the moment. However it won't last long as by Friday morning the low is currently predicted to be -18. Brrr!

Spent about an hour running the snow blower yesterday. Did my sidewalk and driveway and the sidewalks for 3 neighbors. Also got the laundry caught up and drove out to my grandson's place for a birthday party for one of his sons. Oops. Didn't check my cell phone before I left. There was a voice mail and a text telling me that the party was postponed to today. Had a nice chat with my granddaughter and came home. I'll be making the half hour trip again this afternoon and yes, I will be checking my phone before I leave.

Don - while I was at a restaurant the other day they had a car auction on tv. What struck me as odd was that they had a 2021 Ford Bronco with a bid of $68,000. The Bronco starts at around $30,000. Wonder what was so special about that particular vehicle.

All stay safe.
